Peter Collins
Peter is an experienced medical executive leader currently working as Chief Medical Officer at Salisbury Foundation Trust. His board portfolio covers safety, medical leadership, clinical governance and reducing health inequalities, and continuous improvement.
After qualifying in 1995, Peter trained and worked as a doctor in various parts of the UK. After a number of years working as the Shelia Sherlock lecturer in Liver medicine at the Royal Free Hospital, he relocated to Bristol becoming a consultant in the Liver Unit at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. He has held operational and management roles and decided to move to full time leadership, becoming Medical Director at Weston-Super-Mare General Hospital in 2017 and moving to Salisbury in 2020.
He has a keen interest in system leadership and his role requires influencing skills across health social care and the voluntary sector. He was as a trustee for the Weston hospital charity and is currently an ambassador for the Salisbury Hospital Stars Appeal Charity.
Growing up in Birmingham in the 1970s Peter was fortunate to benefit from free music tuition. He has played the violin since the age of 9 and remains an enthusiastic and committed member of a number of amateur orchestras. He recognises the benefit of both listening to and playing in orchestras and the huge benefits this can bring in terms of confidence, team building and social skills.
He hopes that his professional experience and twin passions of reducing inequality and orchestral music will enable him to bring insight and skills to the Orchestras Live team.
