About you

Person Specification
This specification aims to be inclusive and encourages applications from candidates with transferrable skills and varied career backgrounds. We are open to applications from individuals who may not meet every criterion but can demonstrate the potential to grow into aspects of the role.
You don’t need to have a background of working in the orchestral or performing arts sector to undertake this role – we’re more interested in your ability to build relationships and trust with a wide variety of people, and your project management and organisational skills, your understanding of the region and local place/s and/or communities within it.
We’re excited by people who bring different work and life experiences, perspectives and ways of doing things to the organisation. We want to work with people who have open ears and an open mind to new approaches, prepared to challenge the status quo.
Essential Skills and Experience
1. Communication skills
Why? You will be contacting and consulting with a wide range of people and organisations to engage their interest and build commitment to the co-design of projects and programmes. You will be facilitating conversations at grassroots level, with people not normally engaged in music making or orchestral activity.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
2. Experience of working in collaboration and co-production
Why? Partnership work and co-production are at the heart of all Orchestras Live’s projects.
- Ability to manage and deal with the challenges that come with complex ways of working.
3. Understanding of consultation and co-design with local communities
Why? You will be working at grassroots level to increase the opportunities for consulting and co- designing with communities.
- A broad understanding of cultural activity that delivers positive social impact for people where they live and work.
4. Project management skills
Why? You will be supporting the Regional Producer – North and artistic partners to ensure effective long-term development of our partnerships.
- Skills in project scheduling, promotion, budget management and liaison with partners to ensure the smooth delivery of projects.
5. IT skills
Why? You will be using cloud-based software from day one. If we require more advanced IT skills, training and support will be available.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience of using databases.

Desirable Skills and Experience
The following skills and experience are desirable but not essential for a successful application. They can be developed through training and experience once in the role.
1. Experience of working with professional musicians and artists
Why? You will be working with artists and musicians to deliver projects.
- an understanding of the context within which professional musicians and artists work.
2. Using digital technology as an integral element of creative delivery
Why? You will be working with the Producer and partners to develop digital content to tell the story of a project.
- An understanding of how creative use of digital technology can enhance project delivery, inclusion and impact.
3. Creative activities in either health/social care settings or with children and young people
Why? You will be working on a range of projects with different participant groups where an understanding of their needs is crucial to maintaining high quality project delivery.
- Experience of creative activities with children and young people.
- Experience of creative activites in health or social care settings.
4. Site-specific production
Why? Place and storytelling are key components of Orchestras Live’s creative projects.
- Ability to identify and explore potential place-based themes for our partnership work.
5. Demonstrating impact
Why? Being able to demonstrate the impact of our work is essential to Orchestras Live and our partners.
- An understanding of monitoring and evaluation of project delivery.
- Ability to collect evaluation from participants and audiences.
- A commitment to supporting Orchestras Live and partners in demonstrating the impact of the project activity.
6. Fundraising
Why? Sourcing funding to support project activity is an important part of Orchestras Live’s work with partners.
- Ability to identify opportunities for sourcing project funding.
- Preparation of content for funding applications written by Orchestras Live’s funding development team.
7. Knowledge of or interest in one of more of the following:

- A range of contacts that could add to our network in the region
- Orchestral/classical music
