Orchestras Live is pleased to welcome Joana Maia into her role as Data and Administration Assistant.
Joana was born in Coimbra, Portugal, and moved to London five years ago. Since then, she completed her MA in Music Education and has recently started a PhD. Her research work is mainly focused on music and gender identity. Another topic Joana is particularly interested in is music, memory, and the elderly. This started to fascinate her as she would watch her late grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, being able to recall the melodic lines and some of the lyrics of her favourite songs, even though her disease had impaired her speech, memory, and interpersonal relationships quite severely.
Whilst completing her doctorate, Joana has been working for small-scale companies, focusing mainly on measuring their public impact through concrete sets of data, and optimising their marketing strategies and social media presence accordingly. Joana is eager to expand her music administration knowledge and optimising her data collection / analysis methods. By joining Orchestras Live, she hopes she will manage to put her theoretical knowledge to the service of an organisation whose ethos she admires and identifies with completely.
Joana is an advocate for culture and the arts and feels deeply connected to the sector not only from a professional, but also from a personal point of view. She is passionate about singing and used to have singing lessons and sing at a Portuguese choir. One of Joana’s favourite spare time activities is going to concerts, musical theatre shows, ballet performances and theatre plays with her partner, who luckily shares her love for the arts.
Joana’s role supports the administrative and data processes for Orchestras Live's programme of activity. She will assist Karys Orman, our Production and Insight Coordinator, in the practical implementation of Orchestras Live's data strategy to enable the organisation to effectively collect evidence that can demonstrate its impact and value to a wide range of stakeholders.
Joana started working with us in early September.
