Transformative youth music project: Goole Creates launches
NewsNews Story
The East Riding Schools’ Music Service (ERSMS), in collaboration with Orchestras Live and the Hallé Orchestra, is thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking inclusive music project in Goole.
Goole Creates is backed by Youth Music, thanks to the National Lottery via Arts Council England and marks a significant milestone in the region's cultural landscape.
Driven by a commitment to inclusivity, ERSMS is dedicated to expanding access to music education for all young people in the East Riding. Building upon its reputation for excellence in instrumental teaching and traditional ensembles, the service is determined to break down barriers and provide new opportunities for expression and growth.
The project will see students from Goole Academy and Riverside School join forces with professional musicians from the prestigious Hallé Orchestra, as well as educators from the East Riding Schools’ Music Service. Together, they will embark on a transformative journey of musical exploration, creation, and performance.
"This project represents an exciting step forward in our mission to foster a more inclusive and vibrant music community," said Isaac Draper, Inclusion Coordinator at ERSMS. "By bringing together students from diverse backgrounds and experiences, we aim to harness the power of music as a unifying force, transcending boundaries and celebrating individual creativity."
Through collaborative workshops, rehearsals, and performances, disabled and non-disabled young people will have the opportunity to explore their musical talents, develop new skills, and build meaningful connections with peers and mentors alike. By fostering an environment of creativity, respect, and collaboration, the project aims to empower young people to express themselves authentically and realise their full potential.
"We are incredibly grateful to Youth Music, the National Lottery, and Arts Council England for their generous support," added Isaac. "Their investment not only enables us to realise our vision of a more inclusive music community across the county but also underscores the transformative power of the arts in enriching lives and strengthening communities."
As the project unfolds, ERSMS looks forward to witnessing the positive impact it will have on participants and the wider community and to hearing the brand-new music they create for their new ensemble with the Hallé. Through music, collaboration, and shared passion, the project seeks to inspire, uplift, and unite individuals across boundaries, fostering a more inclusive and harmonious society.
Creating new music is an exciting journey for young people and the professional musicians to take. You never know what creative directions the young people will explore, but we do know they will have lots of brilliant ideas to create something together that is incredibly special for their community. We can’t wait to work with our partners to make brilliant music happen in Goole!
